Month End: May Snapshot

This is Jill’s first Mother’s Day as a mother. She’s so phenomenal as a mother. The love she has for me is even more magnified for Evie and I can see it. At times, I don’t feel like an adequate father. Growing up, I was primarily raised by my Mom, because Dad had to take jobs away from home to pay the bills and mortgage. I feel like he also took those jobs because of the weight of being a father, and a husband. It is a heavy weight that through counseling, and being willing to grow, I’ve come to understand myself in a deeper way. You have a choice to grow apart or grow together. Either way you are still growing. I have been in counseling since 2018 to help me work through a lot of the mental constructs I had created since I was younger. Although this topic may seem taboo to most, our mental health is just as if not more than important than our physical health. Our brain is a muscle too, and it must be properly cared for. I have gotten to the place where I can now choose if I want to continue sessions, which at this time I’m going to stop. I now have the tools to face my mind, and I know that going to get a mental checkup is natural. Knowing these things strengthens me.

For this Mother’s Day, we had Jill’s Mom, my Mom, and Jill’s grandmother over and I grilled out food to celebrate and honor them. The miracle of pregnancy, and the labor of childbirth are just a few of the things that separate men from women. It makes me value and love her even more. Even with this celebration and installing new gutters for our house and the extra expenses, the Navient loan is being paid down at an accelerated rate. Toward the end of last year, she agreed to sign up for Ramsey+ and we watched Financial Peace University together. It’s a nine-lesson course which will work you through the baby steps and beyond. Dave Ramsey and the other Ramsey personalities teach you from their perspective which includes Biblical principles. Although I don’t know if it is true or not, I believe Dave was inspired by Crown Financial Ministries. I had watched one lesson which involved insurance, which validated our identity theft protection business, but I never truly took the time to learn more about Dave and his work until that fateful truck ride with my co-worker and best friend Davis. As I said before, there was an episode where a small business owner called in to talk through his finances, and Dave’s point of view was the push that made me go all in and learn about his way. Conversations with a childhood friend, Rutt and how he does business helped me see another perspective, and finally the Lord has been growing the self-lending principle inside of me to help me show a third option.

With these three options, there is an opportunity to help everyone. Offering three separate lanes, which speaks to everyone. I am thankful for my financial setbacks, and tragedies, because they have led to this point in my life. Billy Graham said that the next great ministry is the ministry in the marketplace. The marketplace is Wall Street and Main Street. The marketplace is your money. We live in the most prosperous generation in the world, and it is our responsibility to steward it well. Do you live beyond debt free?

This month’s video is Living On Less AND Living WITH Less from the The Ramsey Show – Full Episodes YouTube channel.

“The LORD will send rain at the proper time from his rich treasury in the heavens and will bless all the work you do. You will lend to many nations, but you will never need to borrow from them.”
