Month End: June Snapshot

The last beach trip Jill and I had was in 2019 related to her work. Even with the restrictions of COVID, I wanted to take her to the beach this year to celebrate when we first started dating in June of 2013. I remember prior to 2018 I really didn’t enjoy beach trips. This trip is special to me because we stayed in Panama City which was one of our first out of state date trips. We were going to celebrate a former co-workers wedding. Back then I didn’t particularly enjoy walks along the beach, but this time, I took the time to enjoy each moment. This city is also special because Jill surprised me with a trip all the way to Angelo’s for dinner for one night on my birthday when we were dating. When we first dated each other, we did special things to show how much we cared about each other. It is important to continue to date the person you want to spend the rest of your life with even after you get married.

We ate at one of the nice local restaurants when we first dated, we had Thai food, and I was able to have seafood. We went to eat breakfast at a new restaurant, and we really took the time to reconnect. It’s important on your debt free journey to take breaks and re-connect with your why or your relationship partner. Having more money should not be your only goal. It should be a result or a by product of your goal. Money is spiritual and it is a power. A person’s ability to understand this concept, can help a person see that we are all in the service industry. Our service to our internal customers (our co-workers) and our external customers (the consumers) determines the currency we receive. I agree that specialized fields command higher rates of pay and require further education, but even some of the most successful business owners both financially and in life didn’t necessarily have a college education. Education is the ability to draw out who you really are.

Your debt free journey should have rest and relationship in it because we are not animals, nor are we machines. Over the past few months, I have re-connected with a friend Jacqui, and she is the example of someone who does not have a completed college education however she is from my point of view running a successful business. Years ago, I had helped her get a loan, which I had paid off, and she had agreed to pay me back. Here years later she remembered and paid me back. It reflects her integrity, but also, it’s an example of the Lord’s blessing on our finances. I have lived over a decade of my life as person who tithes and gives the 1st 10% to the Lord. I’ve lived my life without tithing, and I choose to tithe. Not for the financial blessings, but as a gratitude for this life and the Creator of my life. Even with this trip, the Navient loan is still being paid off at an accelerated rate, and it feels good. At the same time, I am putting enormous pressure on myself to pay this loan off because I’ve had it for so long. Do you need a vacation when you are trying to be debt free?

“The LORD will send rain at the proper time from his rich treasury in the heavens and will bless all the work you do. You will lend to many nations, but you will never need to borrow from them.”
