Month End: January Snapshot

At the start of 2023, I felt like this year was going to be weird. This year started with me having a health scare. I felt like my body’s health was worse than it has been in a long time. I felt so bad that it helped me re-evaluate my priorities. Previously, I’ve reasoned that if anything ever happened to me, I have life insurance and Jill wouldn’t have to worry about having debt to pay. As I lay in bed, I realized that the money doesn’t matter, it’s the time that matters. Watching Evie grow up, growing old with Jill, and the memories & life we would have together would be gone. Time is the one thing you can’t buy enough of. Ideally wealth will give you more time and health, but this life does end. Three keys in life are time, health, and wealth in this order in my mind. At year end, I was thankful to receive a bonus. Also, at the start of this year, I’m actually considering returning down a career path that I did close to 15 years ago. It’s both a terrifying and yet exciting opportunity if I’m allowed to do it. Even with these changes, I’m still paying down the final installment loan. Even though the payment is $238.39 per month, I continue to pay more than the required payment to accelerate the pay off of this debt. This loan originated at $19,780.00 in June of 2020 and is a 84 month loan at 0%., and is 60.31% complete. If I go down a change in career path, then I will to seriously examine my budget and monitor my expenses even closer. Having a budget, and a process of what you do within your budget is what helps organize your finances. My budget has two major components: points of pain and tithe, save, & spend. Does your budget allow you lead you to be debt free?

This month’s video is Childhood Trauma, Marriage, and Making Friends | Dr. John Delony | EP 307 from the Jordan B Peterson YouTube channel.

“The LORD will send rain at the proper time from his rich treasury in the heavens and will bless all the work you do. You will lend to many nations, but you will never need to borrow from them.”
